Extension Report - Brooke Edmunds, Elizabeth Records
Elizabeth thanked everyone who signed up to mentor the new trainees. We have 17 students enrolled for Linn County. Elizabeth is still looking for 10 more mentors. She would prefer mentors who have experience in participating in plant clinics held out in the community. She also reminded us about the updated MG class schedule. The new trainees will begin class on March 5th. There will be a welcome potluck from noon to 1pm. Some bee tubes were donated by Peggy Mullet. Ann Kinkley will locate her contact info so we can send a thank you note.
OMGA Report - Janice Gregg
Janice discussed the upcoming Mini College to be held on July 23,24,25. Registration will open April 1, 2020. The event will be held at the OSU Alumni Center. Thursday night, the 23rd, will feature the viewing of the Knights ball game. There will be reserved seating in the Omaha Room at the stadium. Linn County will be in charge of decorations and the Send A Friend fund raiser. Each county will be asked to donate items for themed raffle baskets. We will need 5 baskets. Karen Magnuson, Kelly Muller and Ann Kinkley will help Janice will this project.
The Garden Tour will be held on June 20, 2020
Beevent - Susan Morton
The Beevent is March 7. Susan received an email from Olivia Carrill, the key note speaker. Elaine Sedgman, the author of a book for kids about the blue mason bee, will be coming from Canada to attend. We will sell her books for $12 and she will be donating $3 of that back to Linn County MG. Registration is going gang busters. The clam shells and utensils have arrived. The next Beevent meeting is scheduled for February 19, 10 - noon at the extension office to finalize details. On March 4th from 10 - noon there will be another meeting to stuff envelopes. The event is being well advertised via public media. The new trainees will be participating as volunteers. We received 15000 in cocoon donations.
PNW Gardening Classes - Randy Peckham
Randy stated all is going well. These classes are held at the Albany Library at noon. Randy will finalize the dates. He would like to hold some of the classes in the demo garden to offer some demonstrations, i.e. tool sharpening, irrigation techniques. Dave Kreiger said he would be willing to help with the demos.
General Membership Meeting - Randy Peckham
Randy reported the first class held at the Albany Library on January 16 had about 20 guests. These meetings will be held on the third Thursday of the month beginning at 6pm. They will include a short synopsis of the last board meeting.
Demo Garden - Dave Kreiger
Dave would like to have a work party at noon on February 19 following the Beevent meeting. The demo garden needs a good clean up. Kelly will make a sign about leaving some of the "winter landscape" in place to allow the birds, insects etc. to forage. Randy will be doing some pruning. A planning meeting for the upcoming year is scheduled for March 27 from 1 - 2.30pm at the demo garden.
Community Garden - Pam Nelson
Pam asked where does the Community Garden fit in to the Linn County Master Gardeners Association. It was determined it should be included in our activities. Pam stated some of the beds will be donated for use during the Seed2Super classes for hands on activities. Pam also mentioned some of the members at the garden have put together some greeting cards and she would like permission to sell them at different events. Ann Kinkley made a motion to allow their participation. Susan Morton seconded the motion. The motion carried. Their first activity will be the Beevent.
Farmers Market - Pam Thomas
We will continue with our regular schedule of participating in the Farmers Market on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month. Vonda Peters is excited about a new POP presentation and will be showing it at our next board meeting.
Domain Name - Ann Kinkley
Ann explained we needed to purchase our domain name(s) if we want to keep them. Ranee made a motion which was seconded by Janice to purchase oregonbeevent.org and .com. The motion carried. This will be a recurring cost to be deducted from the checking account. Ann Kinkley will contact Betty Goergen about this.
