Treasurer Report-Ranee Webb
Checkbook balance as of June 4, 2019 is $21,064.82
Ann was gone so Ranee gave the total check book amount.
Extension Report-Brooke Edmunds, Elizabeth Records
Elizabeth mailed out volunteer paperwork that has to be filled out each year for OSU. She is trying to catch each person. This paperwork has to be done yearly with the year ending October 31st. Next year the office is going to start collecting signed papers in October and get started early.
Brooke told us about a new website for active volunteers. Elizabeth will put a link in the Enews to connect to it. Brooke wants feedback on how it looks and if it has everything we need as volunteers.
Brooke will put a note in the OSU Growing magazine about Master Gardeners who are no longer certified and would like to get involved again. We have had a few people who have had to let their certification go and are asking how to recertify again.
Garden Tour-Betty Goergen
Betty has more volunteers than normal this year. Everything is ready to go. Pretour is Saturday, June 8th at 8:30. The volunteer potluck is June 27 at the demo garden at 5:30 for all garden tour workers.
An article will be in the Democrat Herald.
Advertising is right on budget and there is a lot of advertising going out.
Maps are not being mailed with the tickets because of postage costs. There is a note regarding where to pick up a map if people need them. Ranee Webb and Karin Magnuson will be at the information center in Albany that morning selling tickets and handing out maps.
Betty is looking at new post flags for Master Gardener events instead of the heavy sandwich boards. The flags are 13 feet tall and blow in the wind. It is a possibility for next year.
People can still buy a tickets the day of the tour at each garden. There will be garden topics at the ticket table at the houses. They are interesting talking points for conversation.
Thinking Ahead to Linn County Fair-Betty Goergen
This year the fair is July 17-20th. No one has volunteered to be in charge of the demo garden schedule. The gate is open and the garden is staffed until about 7pm before the concert and then the gates are locked.
Mother Earth News fair is August 3 & 4. Someone is needed to coordinate the demo garden schedule. Mother Earth News fair had 600 to 800 people come through the demo garden last year.
Demo Garden-Dave Krieger
The new bench is in and everything is planted for the summer.
He is looking into bark dust for the flower gardens. There is still some budget money that can be used. It looks great.
Larry Steele has a purple bed with an 8 fl teepee for climbers. Everyone should stop by and see it.
Karin Magnuson will contact the Democrat Herald to see if they will do an article about the demo garden.
Directory-Brooke Edmunds, Betty Goergen
Benton county wants the directory like it is currently. They are willing to pay $500 toward it. They have budgeted it in their printing budget. Linn county has to decide what we want to do. We do not have the budget money for that item. The cost of printing the directory has more than doubled in the last 2 years. The extension office can no longer cover the cost of printing and they don't have the staff to format it.
There was a discussion that if we had the information we could print the directory ourselves that just contained the Linn county information. Elizabeth said it is possible to take the info from extension in their spread sheets and create the info ourselves. She said the directory information will be online also.
Linn county has less than 100 people to have a printed versions for. There were several people mentioned that may be able to help with that project. We will need money is next year's budget for printing. Mailing is expensive so we may need people come and pick up their directory at events or the office. It was decided that we will make them and people can come and pick them up. Betty will check on printing costs.
Upcoming Events/Other Business
We need to start thinking about new officer for 2020. Next year's openings will be for President, Treasurer, Secretary and 2nd Vice President. Each of those positions is a 2 year term limit. Randy Peckham as 1st Vice President is only one on his 1st year. Member's-At-Large and the OMGA Rep do not have term limits. If anyone is interested in a position they can submit their name for the July 2nd board meeting.
Pam Nelson is in charge of the new internet hot spot. Pam will bring it to the next board meeting so everyone can see it and how to log into it. Pam keeps it in the farmer's market box for the Albany Farmers Market and the Willamette Community Garden. Any activity can use it. Can contact Pam if it is needed for an event to check availability. The bee event will use it also.
Pam Nelson would like exit interviews with the new trainees. We need to do a better job at keeping our trainees involved. She wants to see something in place to make sure the new people stay engaged because we have so many people who have been certified and fell off the radar. We will start looking at how to do that. Interviews would have to be done about October, just before graduation. Mentors touching base with their mentees is a possibility.
Meeting Adjourned at 2:02
