Blue Orchard Mason Bee Cocoon Harvesting classes are now open for registration.
Mid-October thru early November are the ideal times to harvest and clean your Blue Orchard Mason Bees. Linn Master Gardeners offer FREE classes for cocoon harvesting!
Currently classes are offered in Linn County and Benton County, Oregon. (We can add more if there is enough demand.)
In nature about 30% of the cocoons survive, but we can get about a 90% survival rate if we properly harvest and clean the cocoons. Not harvesting and cleaning the cocoons may leave you with a dead site.
Why go to a class?
Have fun learning more! We are learning more and have a new recommendation for mite control.
Hope to see you at a class!
P.S. If you sign up and cannot make it, please call the Linn Extension office, so we can open up the spot for someone on a waiting list. Space in each class is limited to 15, thus registration is required.
P.P.S. We will post the latest cocoon cleaning recommendations on BEE NOTES in October for those who cannot attend these classes.
These posts are from Master Gardeners, as well as speakers we have had at various events concerning pollinators. Subscribe to BeeNotes to get this information delivered right to your inbox!
